SSLC exams 2019-20: With 99.32 pass percentage, Ernakulam district ranks fourth in Kerala

Ernakulam district ranked fourth in the state in the SSLC results 2019-20 with 99.32 pass percentage. Out of the 31,440 students who have appeared for the exam, 31,226 have become eligible for higher studies (EHS). A total of 3,406 students secured A+ grade in all subjects in the district and 223 schools recorded 100% pass.

KOCHI: Ernakulam district ranked fourth in the state in the SSLC results 2019-20 with 99.32 pass percentage. Out of the 31,440 students who have appeared for the exam, 31,226 have become eligible for higher studies (EHS). A total of 3,406 students secured A+ grade in all subjects in the district and 223 schools recorded 100% pass.
Education department officials said that the result was a great achievement as the exams were conducted amid the challenges posed by the pandemic and three exams were conducted under high security during the lockdown.

Out of the 3,406 students who secured A+ grade in all subjects, 2,454 are girls and 952 are boys. While 320 and 2,548 students out of the 3,406 belonged to the government and aided schools respectively, the remaining 538 students belonged to unaided schools. Out of the 3,406 students, 131 students belonged to Scheduled Caste/ Tribe categories. As many as 72 government schools, 108 aided schools and 43 unaided schools have recorded 100% pass.
Considering the performance of government schools, Muvattupuzha educational district topped in the district with 99.25 pass percentage followed by Aluva (99.24), Kothamangalam (99.17) and Ernakulam (98.67). Most number of students (1,837) appeared for the exam in government schools were from Aluva educational district. While Aluva topped with 177 students securing full A+, Kothamangalam came second with 69 students securing full A+, followed by Ernakulam (56) and Muvattupuzha (18).
In the aided school category, the pass percentages of the four educational districts are - Muvattupuzha (99.9%), Kothamangalam (99.57), Aluva (99.41) and Ernakulam (98.82). Aluva topped in terms of number of students securing full A+ in aided schools with 934 students followed by Ernakulam (747), Kothamangalam (455) and Muvattupuzha (412).
In the unaided category, Aluva and Kothamangalam topped with 100% pass followed by Ernakulam (99.65) and Muvattupuzha (99.38). While 287 and 113 students secured full A+ in Aluva and Ernakulam respectively, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam reported 85 and 53 students with full A+.

Some of the schools that secured 100% pass are St Teresa's CGHSS Ernakulam, Sobhana EMHS Kothamangalam, and Rajagiri Higher Secondary School, Kalamassery. While 53 out of 132 students secured A+ in all subjects at Rajagiri, 63 out of 269 students secured full A+ at St Teresa's CGHSS. At Sobhana EMHS 16 of the 85 students got full A+. SDPY KPMHS, Edvavanakad, reported 98.92% pass with 22 students securing full A+.
Most of the students who secured 9 A+ grades failed to secure A+ in Mathematics. "Mathematics was the toughest subject this time too and it was conducted amid the tension of lockdown," said Sr Margie, headmistress of St Teresa's CGHSS.
